Dryptosaurus (meaning "Tearing Lizard") is a genus of theropod dinosaur from Late Cretaceous New Jersey.
It was discovered during the Bone Wars by Edward Drinker Cope in 1866. E D Cope originally named Dryptosaurus ,Laelaps, unaware that that was a name given to an insect.
In 1877, Othneil Charles Marsh renamed Laelaps himself, he named it Dryptosaurus. Dryptosaurus were primative three clawed tyrannosaur, which it was probably the domninate predator of New Jeresy.The speciem found was probably not grown and a adult may be 8 meters( 26 ft) and weigh 2.8 tons.It lived about 67.5 million years ago.
