Phorusrhacos (meaning "Rag-Thief") was a large flightless predatory bird in the family Phorusrhacidae (colloquially known as "terror birds"). It lived from Early Miocene epoch to Mid Miocene epoch during the Neogene period.

Phorusrhacos was about 2.5 meters (8 ft) tall and weighed approximately 130 kilograms (280 lbs). It had a huge hooked beak and large claws on its toes. It ate small mammals and carrion.
